Captain Jonathan Archer commands the U.S.S. Enterprise NX-01 in Star Trek: Enterprise. As a boy, he built model starships with his father, Henry Archer, who worked with Zefram Cochran to develop the first warp 5 engine; as a man, he helped to build and test pilot Earth’s first starship. Against the wishes of the Vulcans, he was chosen to captain Enterprise NX-01. Although he initially found himself at odds with T’Pol, the Vulcan Subcommander assigned to his crew, he eventually developed a tight bond with her and his entire crew, particularly his best friend, Commander “Trip,” his communications officer Hoshi, and his faithful dog, Porthos.
