The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, a Constitution-class starship, serves as the Federation’s flagship from 2245 to 2285. Under Captain Christopher Pike throughout the 2250s-60s, she journeys to Rigel, Vega, and Talos. James T. Kirk assumes command in 2265 for a five-year deep-space mission, exploring unknown regions and establishing first contact with many alien species. The ship has undergone refits, becoming a Constitution II-class, and primarily a training ship, until its 2285 destruction. She defended Federation territories, aided colonies, and exemplified Starfleet's mission of exploration and peacekeeping.
